Especially shield reliant ones. I lol as i strafe around them and they frantically try to hit me. New fotm medium suits.
Heavies are only dangerous if you run into their machine gun range and refuse to use grenades, mass drivers, remote explosives, plasma cannons, or forge guns.
Problem is most players only know how to use a very narrow amount of weapons. The people you're probably going to see the most of are shotgun scouts, medium suits with a rifle, and heavies with hmgs. Problem is many players won't use anything but one of the 3 mentioned suit loadouts and they typically just charge head long at the opponent.
This works well for shotgun scouts and hmg heavies but not very well for medium suits with rifles, which is why medium suits are less popular meta wise. Because the bulk of pubs are full of players who only know how to run head long into a fire fight with a shotgun, hmg, or rifle. Ironically all types can kill the other types depending on the circumstances you just need to not charge in head long with a rifle. And if you want to play smarter and make your life easier, you use grenades, mass drivers, remote explosives, plasma cannons, or forge guns to dislodge heavily fortified positions. If players are entrenched on objectives then make it rain...
It's not that hmg heavies or shotgun scout are OP in general, it's that they are OP at stopping zerg rushes from blue berries. 6 pool doesn't work if your opponent expects you to 6 pool. |

Try stopping a 4 man heavy team with 2 logis in a CQC enviroment. It's insane. RE's are *almost* useless due to the huge timer delay, and you can't even mass drive them to death without Minmandos and LOTS of ammo.
In short, you just gotta suit up and head down there yourself. That's not balance. There needs to be more and better counter-play options.
But yeah, in a normal field enviroment, Assaults can rip heavies a new one. The range and strafe really help shred heavies.
That's why I made an assault mass driver Minmando with ishokune gauge nanohives. 4 nanos and tons of replenishment means I can pretty much make it rain for quite some time. It helps too if you have PLC or forge guns at the ready to pop anyone that pokes out while you're hammering them into a smaller and smaller corner. Heavies might be able to out rep AOE with some logi/scout reppers but the logi/scout reppers will die to the AOE.
The environment isn't the problem, it's the general uselessness of many players who just keep charging in without any awareness or tactical sense. |
